BAKARY PARIS

Jewelry handmade with love in  Paris

Jewelry

Brigitte Mirault is a young accessory stylist, graduated with a Master in Clothing Design from Decorative Arts in Paris. Bakary was born from her desire to create a collection of jewelry oscillating between her African and her European origins. Bakary is the name of her Malian great-grandfather. Each piece of jewelry bears an African-sounding name intimately linked to her family history. Bakary is a tribute to her family, a mode of expression inspired by her memories, her experiences and her travels.

Bakary advocates mixing cultures. Therefore you can find as many African influences as Arab or Indian influences. Handicraft techniques such as embroidery and pearl weaving are combined with more contemporary know-how such as laser cutting and engraving on plexiglass.

Bakary is part of slow-fashion. Each piece of jewelry is entirely handmade in Paris in limited series. Particular attention is paid to the composition of the materials used : eco-responsible, made in the EU, nickel-free and anti-allergenic. The pieces are cut on demand by a Parisian service provider and the gilders are based in France. The manufacturing is handcrafted and in a limited series which makes each piece of jewelry a fairly rare item.

ZURI ARTS

Traditionnal Kenyan handcraft

Pearl jewelry

Zuri Arts is a start-up that was founded in 2015 with the aim of working with women artisans from remote villages in Kenya. In a bid to supplement their incomes, women from these areas use locally available recyclable materials such as sisal and banana fibres that grow naturally to create unique products using old-time traditional skills that are passed down from generations of mothers to their daughters.

Zuri Arts is committed to supporting and empowering women self-help groups and local artisans by helping their products enter and compete in the international market. All their products are handmade in Kenya; they are 100% biodegradable materials. They include handwoven sisal baskets(kiondo), winnowing trays, interior decor, and art de table.

By purchasing these products, you not only will be empowering our women artisans economically, but also be helping in the preservation of this unique cultural heritage that’s at risk of being forgotten.
