Maïwax imagines, draws and markets glasses from cellulose acetate and a type of African fabric: the Wax. Chale is the first watch brand dedicated to African culture. Created in 2017 in Oslo, their vision is to create something that represents Africa's colorful cultures and Scandinavian minimalism, to build bridges.


They named their watches Chale because of the direct link to Africa and the broad use of the word.
Chale is a very popular Ghanian colloquial expression used in multiple senses. Look it up in the Urban dictionary to feed your curiosity!


The symbol they use on their watches are borrowed from the West African Adinkra symbol range. This particular symbol is called "Gye Nyame" and mean "supremacy of God". Who or what your God is, is of course up to you.
